Frontex announced that, in Sept. 2nd, it requested 775 border patrolmen from the members of the EU and the countries which belong to the Schengen agreement, in order to post them in Italy and Greece where they would assist with the registration and identification of the migrants arriving at their borders.

The agency's director, Fabrice Leggeri stated that “We are facing a migrant and refugee crisis. This is the first time that Frontex has asked its member-states for such a large number of border patrol officers”. He added that, although only one third of the requested guards were offered to Frontex, he hopes that the countries will continue volunteering more guards.
