The Austrian plan is opposing: "in a despicable way the European rules, as well as, history, rationality and the future" were the words of the Italian prime minister Matteo Renzi concerning the Austrian plan to raise a 400mt. border wall in order to put a stop to the refugee influx
Mr.Renzi posted a series of data on his personal web page, which demonstrate that the number of refugees who have reached Italy via the Mediterranean sea is not larger than those who came to the Italian shores during 2015 and 2014. Based on these numbers he claimed that the level of alarm in Europe is “exaggerated”.
Austria has already commenced works on its borders so as to be able to control those coming into the country should the number of migrants increase to an extent that would render that necessary.
The 400mt. fence
On Wednesday, The Tiroler Tageszeitung newspaper reported that Vienna wishes to build a 400mt. border fence at the Brenner pass. The chief of the Tirolian police, stated that the building of the fence depends on the will of Italy to cooperate with Austria.
The Tirol Police spokesman refused to confirm or refute the report.
