The Governmental Council for National Security convened for an emergency meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis. Following the meeting, the Prime Minister’s office released a statement declaring, "Greece condemns in the strongest terms the attacks by Iran on Israel" and affirmed Greece's support for the right to security of the Israeli people, while also calling for immediate de-escalation.
“Greece supports the people of Israel and their right to live in security and reiterates the call for immediate de-escalation,” the statement said.
The Greek government has heightened its state of alert, increasing security checks and cooperation on intelligence sharing in response to the ongoing conflict.
During the meeting, the security situation in the Middle East was reviewed, with particular focus on Iran’s recent attacks on Israel. Plans for the potential evacuation of Greek citizens from Lebanon were also discussed.
The official government statement concluded: “This is a serious escalation that threatens regional stability and security. The Greek authorities remain alert at all levels and are intensifying checks and cooperation for information exchange.”
