The whole incident could have been a slight hiccup if everybody concerned had accepted that it was a simple technical glitz. This did not happen and the four candidates started accusing each other. It is therefore obvious by the reaction of the candidates themselves that this was not a simple technical glitz.
The party decided that the elections will be held on Dec.13 with the second round scheduled for Dec.20.
It remains to be seen whether the party will manage to weather the ugly climate that has been created between the candidates and their various followers, both within the parliament and without.
The most unfortunate result for the rest of us is that at a time when the government is passing crucial austerity measures the party entrusted with the role of checking and asking for accountability will be silent and weak.
