Ilias Kasidiaris, who was sentenced to 13 years in prison as a key figure in the neo-Nazi criminal organisation Golden Dawn, has submitted a request for release. The application was filed yesterday, May 7, with the management of Domokos Prisons and has been forwarded to the Lamia prosecutor's office for evaluation.

The request is now pending a decision from the Lamia Misdemeanour Council, which previously ruled on the conditional release of Nikos Michaloliakos, another prominent member of Golden Dawn. In Michaloliakos’ case, despite the prosecutor’s recommendation against release due to the lack of remorse and moral progress shown by the applicant, the judicial council decided in favor of his conditional release.

Kasidiaris has completed three-fifths of his prison term. According to his lawyer, Vasso Pantazi, Kasidiaris maintains a clean disciplinary record and has been granted leave from prison. The upcoming decision by the judicial council is highly anticipated, given the precedent set by the release of Michaloliakos and the controversies surrounding it.
