According to the complaint, reported by ERT, the woman entered the clinic weighing 72kg and lost 27kg in just six months. During that period, her relatives were reportedly prevented from visiting her, leaving her effectively isolated.
‘We didn’t recognise her when they handed her back to us. And while they had banned us from visiting because of Covid, they wrote on the document that she had died from that very virus,’ the complainant said.
‘She was very healthy and mentally sound. They killed her in six months without feeding her, without giving her water and without giving her the medication she needed. They wouldn’t let us visit her, only speak to her by phone because of Covid, apparently so that we wouldn’t see what was going on. I learned from some nurses I know personally that she spent all day shouting that she was hungry and wanted water. You pay for your loved one to get better and instead they finish them off,’ she continued.
The complainant said that her uncle and her cousin, who was only 50 years old, had also died after being admitted to the same clinic.
‘They died within three months,’ she said.
According to the National Transparency Authority (EAD), the clinic was also operating a fully equipped oncology department that was not covered by its existing licence.
The department was reportedly staffed by a single doctor, a pulmonologist specialising in lung oncology, who had been provided with office space at the clinic without a written contract.
