The president of the New Left argued, “Today, no one has the right to celebrate. The record of abstention, combined with the significant rise of the extreme right, rings the bell of danger for democracy.” He noted that “the government, which was rejected at the polls, bears heavy responsibility for this situation” and added that “the politics of the Right is the best sponsor of the extreme right across Europe.”
Mr. Haritsis emphasised that “for the New Left, the result is negative, despite the very moving effort of our members throughout the country,” whom he thanked from the bottom of his heart.
“The Left, however, is always difficult to judge. The New Left is here and continues its course,” he underlined.
