Coast Guard vessels transferred 31 other passengers to Ierapetra, where they were taken to a temporary reception facility. Three of those were subsequently left under medical observation for treatment of less serious conditions.
A Hellenic Air Force Super Puma helicopter assisted the rescue operation, conveying the most critical cases to hospital. Local authorities and emergency services coordinated the response; the investigation into the incident and the migrants’ immediate needs is under way.
