According to Greek state broadcaster ERT, the withdrawn lawsuits had been filed as some politicians accused the witnesses of multiple offences, with several plaintiffs filing two or even three allegations against them. Beyond demanding prosecution, the plaintiffs had called for an investigation into the witnesses’ motivations. The Prosecutor’s Office announced that any remaining material from these cases will now be processed at an accelerated pace.

This action follows the decision by the Economic Prosecutor’s Office to remove the protected status of the two witnesses in the Novartis case.

In July, former Prime Minister Antonis Samaras, along with Yiannis Stournaras, Adonis Georgiadis, and Andreas Loverdos, had requested the removal of witness protection for “Kelesi” and “Sarafis.” Samaras stated that the move would “pave the way for the full and official disclosure of the Novartis case, revealing the causes and individuals behind this affair.
