According to ERT, the owner was conscious when emergency services reached the scene but succumbed to his injuries during transfer to the hospital.

A total of 34 firefighters with 12 vehicles and a private ladder truck responded to the blaze, rescuing 26 people trapped inside, including eight children. Some guests tied sheets together to escape from balconies and avoid the smoke before the firefighters arrived. Ten individuals were taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure due to respiratory issues.

Preliminary reports from ERT suggest an explosion—believed to be from an air conditioner caused by a short circuit—may have triggered the fire. The blaze reportedly started on the ground or first floor and spread rapidly. Two fire department investigators have been dispatched to determine the exact cause.

The 55-year-old victim’s body is being transferred to the forensic service in Larissa for an autopsy to confirm the cause of death. Initial reports indicate that he may have wrapped himself in a blanket to protect against the flames, lost consciousness due to smoke inhalation, and fallen from the balcony.
