Accusations and plea
The officer is accused of a range of heinous acts, including long-term sexual and emotional abuse, rape, and incest involving his wife and their minor children. However, he has denied the charges, claiming the allegations stem from incidents of domestic violence within the family.
According to his lawyer, Othonas Papadopoulos, the defendant disputes the complaints made by his wife, a fellow police officer, and is requesting a psychiatric evaluation of the complainant. “This case file has a long way to go. We will take immediate action to prove the truth. Our first request is to conduct a psychiatric examination of the complainant,” Papadopoulos stated.
Defence strategy
Papadopoulos argued that the allegations are inconsistent with the defendant’s position and background in law enforcement, stating:
“It is astonishing how a person who works in the Greek police and has served in the riot police allegedly confessed to committing certain acts out of fear of someone else. It is also astonishing how young children could live in such a situation without disclosing anything to a friend, teacher, or professor. This case is progressing, and we are determined to uncover the truth.”
Serious charges
The indictment against the officer is extensive, including:
- Rape
- Serial rape of a minor
- Serial sexual abuse of minors by a relative
- Serial sexual acts between relatives against minors
- Child pornography
- Serial domestic bodily harm
- Serial domestic violence against minors
- Domestic unlawful violence in front of minors
- Unlawful use and carrying of weapons
Next steps
The case is under active investigation, with the defendant maintaining his innocence and attributing the allegations to his wife’s purported psychological condition. The outcome of the requested psychiatric assessment and the ongoing inquiry will play a crucial role in the legal proceedings.
