“Currently, the national average price hovers around 1.93 euros/litre. In major urban centres, prices might be slightly lower, around 1.89 euros/litre, whereas in remote islands, rates can reach up to 2.12 euros/litre,” Papageorgiou explained during an ERT interview. He advised consumers to exercise caution with exceptionally low prices, noting, “Greek refineries currently sell petrol at 1.81 euros/litre. On top of this baseline, costs accrue for wholesale companies, transportation, and gas station margins. It’s reasonable to account for an additional €0.09 to €0.15 cents on top of the €1.81, factoring in these expenses to arrive at a confident retail price estimate.”

Papageorgiou warned, “If this trend persists, we might see prices nearing 2 euros/litre by Easter,” signalling a potential strain for drivers nationwide.
