According to the analysis by the forensic lab of the Hellenic Police, the copies of the three videos submitted by the company Interstar on 5 February 2025 are authentic. These videos are believed to depict the freight train shortly before its collision with the passenger train at Tempe.

The three videos reportedly showing the passenger train moments before its fatal collision in Tempe were submitted to the special appellate investigator by Vasilis Kapernaros, the lawyer for Interstar Security, a company responsible for video surveillance of Greece’s railway network since 2017.

The forensic experts appointed by the special appelate investigating judge had confirmed that the train shown in the videos that have recently emerged is indeed the freight train involved in the Tempe crash. However, they have made it clear that the authenticity of the videos themselves had not been verified. Meanwhile lawyers for the victims’ families have been raising objections, arguing they were not given the opportunity to appoint their own experts to assess the footage.

According to the forensic laboratory report from the Hellenic Police, published today, the three videos are authentic. They depict the freight train shortly before its fatal collision with the passenger train.

Kapernaros had insisted that the only cargo visible in the footage was metal sheets, refuting speculation about hazardous materials.
