ETHNOS12 month moratorium on foreclosed home auctions
– New draft law to be put before parliament within the week The troika made significant steps towards the Greek positions over the issue of lifting the ban on auctions of foreclosed homes in negotiations with the finance and development ministers, Giannis Stournaras and Kostas Chatzidakis. Confident that it will achieve a consensus with, or at least the tolerance of, the lenders, the government is moving to put draft legislation before parliament by Friday that will maintain the ban on home auctions for foreclosed homes at least for 2014. It will apply only to primary residences and under strict preconditions. |

ELEFTHEROTYPIA MP Financial Declarations: Rich leaders, poor country Antonis Samaras and Evangelos Venizelos are the richest of the political leaders and privileged members of the largely financially protected group that are the 300 MPs – in spite of the exceptions that once again prove the rule. The taxation of MPs is also provocative – only 30% of their salaries is taxed with the rest being paid in full. Further questions are raised by the ‘pothen esxes’ [MPs financial declarations which require them to reveal their wealth and its sources] of Golden Dawn MPs some of whom declared zero income! Notable is the ‘white sheet’ of Syriza MP Tzeni Vamvaka who said, “I have no real estate, I have no money.” |

Press Review December 17
Financial declarations show MPs significant wealth and also raise more questions about Golden Dawn; Greece and troika get nearer to an agreement over home auctions; after 13 years the trial over the Athen’s stock market scandal ends without a single conviction; Samaras’s trip to Azerbaijan is cancelled and Olympiakos and PAOK are cautiously optimistic over Champions League draws.
