The first collective dismissals are approved by the Labour Council

The Supreme Labour Council (ASE) approved yesterday the first collective dismissals under the new framework which does not require the signature of the Labour Minister. With a vote of four in favour and three against, the council authorized the dismissal of 45 workers from the steelmaker Halyvourgia Hellas. The dismissed workers will receive full severance payments while their rehiring was agreed in the event that the facility in Aspropyrgos resumes operation and requires employees with the same skillsets. Furthermore the company will pay an additional 1,000 euros to the employees who will receive small severance packages as they had only worked at the company for a relatively short period. The decision indicates that the new legal framework is functional and does not require further modifications as demanded by the troika.

Absolution for abusers of the state!

An SOS from the Legal Council of State over the changes that are coming

Bribery of ministers and the prime minister will be made a misdemeanour!

The ‘predators’ of the arms procurement scandal and others convicted of financial scandals will be let off the hook by the planned elimination by the Ministry of Justice of the law regarding abusers of the state. That is what the Legal Council of the State stressed, noting that the new penal code which has been posted on the internet “makes a clear effort to reduce the sentences linked with the protection of public wealth.” And this because the danger is clear that a large number of public servants accused and convicted of financial wrongdoing will have their cases written off. Law 1609 was adopted in 1950 and only in the last few months ‘brought in’ to public coffers 40 million euros returned by those accused or convicted of crimes.
