Civil Servants Purchasing Credentials

A shady industry has developed catering to public employees who, fearing assessment, are rushing to obtain language and IT credentials as well as graduate and postgraduate degrees. Many opt for Open University courses but, given that these are difficult and require heavy workloads, tutoring colleges have now begun offering ‘packages’ of materials including video lessons, exam answers and completed coursework for sale. For instance completed coursework for a degree in Information Technology costs 800 euros.

The Health Minister has taken another step towards the privatisation of healthcare by announcing that he has a favourable view of a request made by consulting and coordinating doctors of the National Health Service (ESY) that they be allowed to open private practices and operate in private hospitals.
