This deep economic divide is further evidenced by the income gains at the higher end of the spectrum. The wealthiest 20% of the population now capture 58.7% of the total income, a notable increase from 52.6% in 2012. Conversely, the poorest 20% saw their share of total income plummet to just 0.2%, down sharply from 1.4% over the same period.

The distribution of tax burdens has also seen shifts. While 60% of the population contributes merely 4.3% of total income taxes, the top 20% are responsible for paying 81% of these taxes.
