The union confederation PAME has called on all unions to support the protest, stating:
“We condemn the brutal attack by riot police and chemicals on seasonal firefighters, who are simply demanding their right to work. Tomorrow, we join the seasonal firefighters’ call. The government marginalises them and casts them aside.”
Last Thursday night, seasonal firefighters’ peaceful protest inside the Ministry of Civil Protection was met with a forceful MAT intervention, involving chemical agents and physical aggression.

Thursday night’s peaceful protest at the Ministry of Civil Protection was suppressed when riot police (MAT) intervened, using tear gas and batons against firefighters within the ministry’s premises. According to the Panhellenic Association of Contract Firefighters, three firefighters were injured in the attack and taken to Evangelismos Hospital by EKAV ambulance, while three others were detained before being transferred for urgent medical attention.
In addition, journalist Giorgos Androutsos of Rizospastis was reportedly arrested outside the ministry while documenting the police action against protesters.
