Authorities initially arrested two employees of the contracting company, aged 62 and 63, and a 46-year-old Motor Oil employee as part of the investigation into the incident.
Four other individuals were subsequently named in the case file, three of whom voluntarily presented themselves to the authorities and were arrested. All three are Motor Oil employees, bringing the total number of arrests to six.
According to Motor Oil’s statement, the incident occurred during welding work carried out by an external contractor, following a sudden and violent release of gas.
The two most seriously injured workers, aged 40 and 59, were initially taken to Corinth Hospital before being transferred to Thriasio General Hospital in Elefsina.
According to a medical statement issued by the hospital, both sustained fractures to their upper and lower limbs, as well as minor burns of limited extent.
Both underwent surgery and are recovering well. One remains in the intensive care unit for postoperative monitoring but does not require intubation, and his overall condition is described as good.
Doctors have stated that neither worker’s life is currently at risk, although both remain under close medical observation.
The other two injured workers, a 28-year-old Greek national and a 48-year-old Slovenian national, travelled to Corinth Hospital in a private vehicle with minor injuries. The 48-year-old has since been discharged.
