Georgia Adeilini, the Supreme Court Prosecutor, has initiated criminal prosecution for electoral fraud against 11 MPs of the far-right Spartans party, including former member Haralambos Katsivardas, as well as the jailed neo-Nazi, Ilias Kasidiaris. The investigation, triggered by allegations made public by Vasilios Stigas, the party's leader, regarding illicit and covert operations likened to the "Greek Mafia and Don Corleone," did not extend to Stigas himself.

Attention centres on Kasidiaris, the former Golden Dawn spokesperson (Guardian article on the party leaders’ sentencing for running a criminal organisation). He is pinpointed as the hidden mastermind behind the “Spartans.” Accusations claim he steered the party’s course from prison. The inquiry revealed Kasidiaris’ significant role in propelling the otherwise obscure party into Parliament, providing strategic guidance and political support to its members.

Further scrutiny reveals Kasidiaris maintained steady communication with Spartans candidates, directing their political manoeuvres. Alongside the MPs, lawyer Sotirios Metaxas, linked to Kasidiaris’ communications with the party, faces charges of aiding in the electoral deceit.
