Tens of thousands of demonstrators marched in the center of Athens and other major Greek cities today in protest of the troika mandated reforms being implemented by the government following the passage of the omnibus bill by parliament 10 days ago. The demonstrations are said to be winding down with no reports of significant violence.

Private and public sector workers are participating in a general 24-hour strike today called by the General Confederation of Workers of Greece (GSEE) and the Civil Servant’s Supreme Administrative Council (ADEDY). The all-day strike is the first this year.

A number of public and private services will be disrupted all day. Hospitals will be functioning with skeleton staff while bank employees, teachers and tax-office workers will be among those on strike.
