In Athens, a large crowd gathered in Syntagma Square in response to a call by the Association of Relatives of Tempi Victims, labour centres, trade unions, student associations and other organisations. The central slogan of the demonstration was: ‘Their profits or our lives. It was not an accident, it was murder. We do not forget, we do not forgive.’ The gathering opened with a minute of silence in memory of the victims, followed by speeches from representatives of participating organisations. Memorial events were also held abroad.

Local mobilisations

In Larissa, thousands of citizens gathered in the central square before marching to the OSE railway station, where wreaths, flowers and candles were laid in memory of the 57 victims.

In Rhodes, pupils, students and organisations held a rally in the city centre, with speakers emphasising the need for justice and the prevention of future tragedies.

In Heraklion, demonstrators gathered in Eleftherias Square carrying banners and chanting slogans against profit-driven policies that, they argued, endanger human lives. A march through the city’s main streets followed.

In Ioannina, students, farmers and representatives of various organisations joined a rally in the central square. The slogan ‘I will not forget, I will not forgive’ was prominent throughout.

In central Greece, mass commemorations took place in Lamia, Atalanti and Chalkia, with speakers calling for justice, transparency and improved transport safety.

In Patras and western Greece, gatherings were held in Georgiou Square and in Pyrgos, Agrinio and other cities, with the participation of organisations, associations, students and citizens. The mayor of Patras called for security measures and accountability.

Traffic restrictions were in place around central Athens during the protests.
