Supreme Court prosecutor orders urgent investigation into death of Vasilis Kalogirou

The prosecutor of the Supreme Court of Appeals, Georgia Adeilini, has ordered an urgent preliminary investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of 39-year-old Vasilis Kalogirou. The order was addressed to the director of the Larissa First Instance Prosecutor’s Office.
As part of the investigation, Adeilini instructed the prosecutor to personally take a statement from Kalogirou’s mother, prosecutor Sofia Apostolaki, who has publicly expressed suspicions that her son’s death may have been the result of a criminal act. Apostolaki is expected to present any relevant evidence and name individuals she believes may be responsible. The prosecutor also ordered that Kalogirou’s father and uncle be questioned.
The full order reads as follows:
“We kindly request that you conduct an urgent preliminary examination to determine the causes of death of Vasilis Kalogirou, giving the necessary, in your judgement, directions to the police authorities already handling the matter and conducting an ex officio preliminary investigation. In this context, you yourself take a statement from Ms. Sofia Apostolaki, who has publicly expressed suspicions of a criminal act against her aforementioned son, in order to name the person or persons whom she considers responsible for it, providing the relevant evidence. The father and uncle of the deceased should also be examined. Please inform us accordingly.”
