SYRIZA demands emergency parliamentary session over air-traffic communications blackout
SYRIZA MPs who serve on the Committee are asking for immediate, detailed and official briefings on the causes of the communications outage, the current condition of the CAA’s equipment and staffing, as well as the planning, timelines and funding for upgrading Greece’s air navigation infrastructure.
In their statement, they argue that flight safety and the protection of the country’s airspace “cannot be managed with delay, negligence or communication tactics” and require transparency, concrete answers and institutional intervention.
The request comes as the Athens Prosecutor has already launched an urgent preliminary investigation. The Cybercrime Division is examining whether the incident may constitute dangerous interference with aircraft traffic and is investigating the source of the interference that affected nearly all radio frequencies within the Athens FIR.
Authorities say the technical problem has now been resolved and flights are operating normally, though delays continue at some airports due to the backlog created during the blackout.
