Famellos said SYRIZA is demanding an ‘immediate and full investigation’ into the circumstances of the tragedy and the assignment of responsibility where it lies. He reiterated what he described as the ‘non-negotiable obligation’ of both the state and employers to comply with workplace health and safety measures, pointing to what he called an ‘acute problem’ of rising occupational accidents in Greece.
He also announced that a SYRIZA delegation is travelling to Trikala and that the party is in constant contact with the competent local bodies ‘to be fully informed and to support the workers and their families’.
