A team from the Fire Brigade’s Arson Crimes Division in Athens will travel to Koulouri on Friday, 8 March, following an order from an appellate investigator, to examine the remains of a commercial train involved in the Tempe disaster two years ago.
According to findings by EODASAAM, a part of the second engine of the commercial train is missing. After these findings were submitted to the appellate investigator for inclusion in the Tempe case file, the investigator instructed the DAEE (Fire Brigade’s Arson Crimes Division) to inspect the site and the stored debris in Koulouri, as reported by ERT.
A DAEE team had initially arrived at the scene of the disaster in the hours following the accident to assist in the investigation. However, team members later testified that the head of the Larissa Fire Department and four pre-investigation officers from the same department had prevented them from conducting their work. This obstruction is among the reasons legal action has been taken against Larissa Fire Department officials.
