‘Angelos had dreams, and they cut them short. My child, they killed him, burned him and threw him away. I expect the court to live up to its standards. Yes, the stationmaster made a mistake, but no safety system was working. Why didn’t they do their job properly?’ Telkeridis told the court.
‘The indictment is too lenient. The state is always playing catch-up with events. I will pursue them with evidence and European Union law. There is no respect for the families. We are on our own,’ he added.
Telkeridis also sharply criticised Sotiris Bakaimis, the special appellate investigating judge who oversaw the investigation, describing him as ‘the gravedigger of the case’.
Testimony from the victims’ relatives is scheduled to continue on Tuesday 13 October.
