The prosecutor of the Supreme Court, Georgia Adelini, has instructed the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Athens to conduct an urgent inquiry to investigate the circumstances surrounding the inclusion of a reference to a flammable liquid in the EODASAAM report on the Tempe case. This liquid, which allegedly contributed to the fireball following the train collision, is said to have been carried by a freight train.

The prosecutorial order states:

“An urgent preliminary investigation is to be conducted to determine the circumstances under which a specific conclusion was included in the report of the Hellenic Aviation and Railway Safety Investigation Agency (EODASAAM), published on 27 February 2025. The report suggests that an unidentified flammable liquid – weighing at least 2.5 tons – may have been carried by the freight train involved in the collision. This substance, reportedly unrelated to the train engines or declared cargo, is considered a possible cause of the fireball that occurred immediately after the crash.

This investigation is necessary to determine whether any criminal acts have been committed, such as undue influence on judicial officials (under Article 167A of the Penal Code), especially following the denial of these findings by representatives from the Universities of Ghent and Pisa.

Furthermore, it is important to investigate the role played by the Independent Forensic Expert Committee for the Families of Victims (EDAPO) and Kostas Lakafosis, the technical advisor to the families of the Tempe victims, in the formulation of this conclusion.”
