Syriza leader Alexis Tsipras will address supporters tonight but it will look nothing like the political rallies of previous decades when spellbound multitudes would flock to listen to their political idols

Syriza leader Alexis Tsipras plans to address a rally of party supporters tonight but, despite its huge popularity, no one is  expecting a mass mobilization of people flocking to his feet as the norm dictated in the 80s.

The late Andreas Papandreou, son of a prime minister in the 60's, and the father of George Papandreou, PM from 2009 to 2011, was considered a charismatic charmer of the masses.

But his legacy has been punctured with controversy: some still regard him as the statesman who changed Greece, fought inequality and brought social development and economic growth, while others see in him a populist, whose irresponsible spending policies led to today's crisis and spread an ethos of corruption.

The video depicts a PASOK rally in 1985 when political parties were still able to mobilize millions of people in the electoral campaigns, or, in the political lingo, drag them under his balcony.
