“We call on our classmates in Athens and across the country to take to the streets once again against the Tempe crime. On Sunday, 26 January, hundreds of thousands of us marched across Greece. Over the past few days, many schools have staged sit-ins, walkouts, and protests. Now is the time for our voice to be heard again—students across the country, united as one,” stated the Athens Students’ Coordinating Committee in its call to action.

In Athens, Thessaloniki, and many other Greek cities, students stood alongside teachers to voice their anger, demand justice, and call for safer public infrastructure. Protesters also chanted against privatisation, cover-ups, and chronic underfunding of essential public services.

Students take part in a demonstration to demand justice for the 2023 Tempe fatal train accident, in Athens , Greece on February 7, 2025.
