Thousands gathered at Syntagma Square on 15 June as part of the Global Day of Action for Palestine, answering a powerful call from the Greek delegation of the “March to Gaza” mission.
From Cairo, members of the delegation urged: “Let us all flood the streets and squares of the country, demonstrate and shout for Palestine. Let us demand that the government of our country stop collaborating with the murderer Netanyahu.” Their message resonated widely, with mass demonstrations planned across nearly every region of Greece. In Athens, the main rally began at 7pm in Syntagma Square.
The Greek delegation reported that its members remain safe and determined in Cairo, having convened the day before to coordinate their next steps. “We are well and full of energy,” they said. “We send messages of solidarity to the Greek people.”
In Athens, the demonstration featured speeches by representatives of the Palestinian Community of Greece, the Union of Palestinian Workers of Greece, a Palestinian from the West Bank, BDS Greece, trade unions and student associations.
The rally was followed by a protest march to Omonia, under heavy police presence.
