Train evacuated due to smoke at Ilioupoli Metro Station in Athens

A train was evacuated at Ilioupoli Metro Station on Sunday afternoon, 6 April, after smoke filled the train, causing passengers to exit in a state of distress.
The incident led to disruptions in the metro service, with operations on Line 2 temporarily restricted to the sections between Anthoupoli and Agios Dimitrios, and from Argyroupoli to Elliniko, due to a technical fault, according to Urban Rail Transport S.A (STASY): “The problem was caused by a train at Ilioupoli station, where smoke was discharged.”
By 11:00 PM, metro services were fully restored along the entire Line 2, with STASY confirming that the affected train had been withdrawn to the Sepolia depot for the necessary technical inspection.
