Triantopoulos to submit written testimony instead of appearing in person before the parliamentary committee

Former Deputy Minister to the Prime Minister, Christos Triantopoulos, will submit a written statement, rather than appear in person, to the investigation committee of the Parliament regarding his role on the Tempe train disaster on Friday, 28 March.
According to ERT Triantopoulos will not attend the parliamentary investigation committee session in person for the Tempe incident on Friday, 28 March. Instead, he will provide his testimony via a written statement. This is expected to be the final session of the investigation committee, as the party representatives will soon be required to prepare their reports. The session is scheduled to begin at 10 AM.
It is worth noting that Triantopoulos has been accused by the Association of the Tempe victims’ families and the opposition parties for his alleged involvement in the “covering-up” of the crime scene at Tempe. He has requested an immediate referral to a judicial council so that a decision can be made on whether or not to refer him to a special court.
As a reminder constitutional law expert Xenophon Kontiadis commented that the work of the parliamentary investigation committee is crucial as it will determine whether further individuals will face prosecution, and also specify what crime the Plenary will pursue. For example, if the crime is upgraded from a misdemeanor to a felony by the judicial council, the case must first be referred back to Parliament, which is a critical issue concerning the timing of the prosecution. This is especially significant due to the government’s failure to amend the statute of limitations regarding ministerial responsibility laws for five years.
