Syriza leader Alexis Tsipras has denied publications and posters that say he is intent on banning hunting, if he forms a government, as 'lies' and affirmed his commitment to defend the right to hunt within the bounds of the law and European Union regulations.

Tsipras made his remarks during a meeting with representatives of the Hellenic Hunters Confederation.

“We commit, in cooperation with hunters associations and their confederations, to
make the best possible interventions with the goal of continued hunting activity and to protect our country's biodiversity,” he said.

Hunting, particularly on the mainland and mountainous region, is a popular pastime in Greece and the Hellenic Hunters Confederation oversees seven hunting federations and 248 hunting associations.
