Two MPs declare independence from Spartans following prosecutor’s order

Giorgos Manousos, along with Eastern Attica MP Yiannis Dimitrokallis, have declared independence from the Spartans parliamentary party. This move comes after Supreme Court Prosecutor Georgia Adelini ordered criminal prosecution against 11 members of the far-right group, including Manousos and former Spartans MP Haralambos Katsivardas, as well as the imprisoned ex-Golden Dawn MP Ilias Kasidiaris, for deceiving the electorate.
Manousos cited “false and slanderous complaints” by the party’s head, Vasilios Stigas, as his reason for leaving, accusing Stigas of leading to the prosecution. Despite the allegations, the prosecutor’s order does not include Stigas, who had previously accused his party of engaging in “criminal and underground practices,” likening them to a “Greek Mafia and Don Corleone.”
These developments mark a significant shakeup within the “Spartiates,” highlighting internal disputes and legal challenges that have prompted a split from the party by two of its MPs in a single day.
