Vasilinis Metallinos, a member of the Corfu Astronomic Society – the first to be established in Greece – often hiked up cliffs with heavy equipment and braved the elements for hours in order to capture a series of awesome time-lapses of the night sky over Corfu.

The effort may have been painstaking but the resulting sequences, set to original music by John Miliadis (Corfu is famous for its musical heritage),  are no less than spectacular, with the video set to go viral after drawing the attention of CNN who interviewed Mr Metallinos about his efforts.

While Corfu itself is relatively densely populated, in contrast with much of Europe many parts of Greece are blessed with dark and clear skies making the country one of the best places from which to gaze out at the universe. As such astronomy tours are becoming an increasingly popular form of tourism in the country.
