The German minister went on to express his recognition over the Greek reform  efforts while he confessed that Germany itself would not have been able to impose those changes.

“Athens will have to continue on the, difficult, path if it wants to be able to count on European solidarity”  he said while he added that the situation remains difficult.
Concerning the IMF Dr.Schaueble expressed the certainty that it will continue to support the Greek bailout program.

SYRIZA's promises changed things

Speaking about the possibility of a Greek exit from the bailout program, he stressed that, in 2014, such a possibility did exist yet the promises given by SYRIZA; that Greece could remain in the Eurozone without having to make reforms changed things.

He did, however, go on to note that, since summer 2015, “things move forward”.
Dr.Schaueble also spoke about a possible Brexit; he repeated that should the UK leave the Eurozone, then Europe would suffer “grave damage”.

Finally, on the Russian embargoes, he estimated that it is “unlikely” that the will be lifted in the near future.
