A local youth centre chairman was jailed this week and will appear in court on charges he embezzled €800,000 within a one month period.
According to reports, the chairman of the Agios Kosmas National Youth Centre in southern Athens admitted to a corruption investigator that he plundered the organisation’s funds because he suffered from a gambling addiction.
As proof, he presented the investigator with casino attendance sheets which, reportedly, showed that in the 500 days he served as chairman, about half of them were at either at the Parnitha or Loutraki casinos.
