The six officers face serious charges, including the felony of torture in complicity against Vasilis Maggos on 14 June 2020. They are also individually charged with three additional misdemeanours: causing bodily harm in complicity, unlawful detention, and unlawful endangerment – all also in complicity.

Three of the officers have already been convicted in a previous trial and received a two-year suspended prison sentence for inflicting bodily harm.

Speaking to The Press Project, Yiannis Maggos said:

“We’re armed with the righteousness of our case and with the solidarity of the movement, the people, and society as a whole.”

He went on to say that “the evidence overwhelmingly points to police responsibility” and criticised the defence witnesses, describing them as fellow officers “called upon to cover up the torture.”
