Tempi anniversary: Students write victims’ names in red outside parliament
They then lit smoke flares and unfurled banners, calling on the public to attend a further rally on Saturday at 12:00, which is being organised by trade unions and associations of victims’ relatives.
During the student and school rally, protesters also threw red paint at the Ministry of Labour building on Stadiou Street. Participants said the action was symbolic and dedicated to the five workers who lost their lives at the ‘Violanta’ factory. For a while, students stood outside the ministry holding a banner reading: ‘2025: 201 workers did not return home – profits dyed in workers’ blood.’
Rallies were also held in Thessaloniki from early morning to mark the third anniversary. Pupils and students gathered at the Venizelos statue and then marched towards the Ministry of Macedonia–Thrace, carrying banners including: ‘You count profits and losses, we count human lives.’
Two separate memorial events have been planned in Thessaloniki for the 57 victims, including 13 students from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki who were killed in the incident.
