According to the KKE, the government’s actions are an attempt to close down the company and prepare it for acquisition by a new investor, stripped of its current workforce. “The government of ND is trying to put a lock on LARCO and complete the crime against the workers, but also the residents of the areas in the five prefectures where the company operates. With this decision, they are trying to do what the LARCO workers have not allowed them to do until now with their heroic struggle, to fire them in order to hand over the company ‘clean’ to the new ‘investor’,” the statement outlined.

The KKE further described the lay-offs as part of a broader “criminal plan” that involved discrediting, abandoning, slandering, and indebting LARCO—a plan which, according to the party, has been countered by the workers’ resistance and efforts to demonstrate the company’s significant production potential.

“The workers of LARCO, with their heroic struggle for four years, which is a bright example for the entire working class, have proven that they know how to spoil the anti-labour criminal plans of the government,” the KKE added.

The party is calling for widespread solidarity from all workers to support the LARCO employees, urging the renewal of labour contracts based on Union proposals and advocating for the development and modernisation of the company for the benefit of society and the economy.

The KKE has organised a rally to take place on Friday at 7 pm in Syntagma Square, urging a strong turnout: “Everyone tomorrow Friday at 7 pm at the rally of LARCO workers in Syntagma Square! The crime at LARCO will not pass!”
