During a session on the psychosocial development of children in LGBTI families, presented by Dr. Nancy Papathanasiou of Orlando LGBT+, two speakers without relevant experience in the field, Mr. Matsos, a Doctor of Tax Law, and Mr. Kousoulis, a political scientist, challenged established research data supporting the well-being of children in LGBTQI+ families. They presented personal views against the backdrop of scientific discourse, with Mr. Matsos arguing that children need both a male and a female parent based on natural definitions, and Mr. Kousoulis questioning the scientific validity of social phenomena research.

The event drew criticism for allowing these unscientific and homophobic viewpoints to be aired without challenge, particularly since they contradict the mission of EKKA, which includes addressing social exclusion. When attendees protested the views presented, EKKA’s president Ms. Dedoulis called for respect for all opinions.

Orlando LGBT+, a specialised body supporting the LGBTI+ community and their families, urges EKKA and its leadership to clarify their stance on the remarks made during the conference. Furthermore, it calls upon the Ministry of Social Cohesion & Family to ensure adherence to marriage equality laws and evaluate the Board of Directors’ alignment with EKKA’s foundational mission. They voiced strong concerns over the promotion of unscientific and discriminatory perspectives at a forum meant to advance understanding and inclusion in child welfare and social support sectors.
