Eight years without Kostas Efimeros

We owe him the financial model of ThePressProject – the reader-supported platform that sustains an independent news outlet, even though its content remains freely accessible, without paywalls. More profoundly, we owe him the very idea that such a thing could even be possible. At the time, the concept of relying solely on grassroots financial support was unthinkable. In many ways, it still is.
We’re grateful for his courage – for the way he imagined something so bold, and for the sheer determination it took to make it real. Thanks to him, ThePressProject isn’t just an idea – it’s a living, working example of what independent media can be.
We miss him – as a friend, a colleague, and a driving force. We know that, as time passes, fewer people will remember his name or his story. That’s why we insist on telling it. We want those who read and follow our work to know: none of this would have happened without his wild vision. Without the relentless effort he poured into turning a dream – a truly mad, quixotic dream – into something tangible.
On days like today, we feel his absence even more deeply. We hope you will remember – as we do – the journalistic integrity and selflessness that were the cornerstones of this project. We feel proud – proud to carry on working in the space he created with so much passion, persistence, and sacrifice.
