Greece joins International March to Gaza to break the siege: “We walk to Gaza armed with solidarity”

On Thursday 10 June, a packed auditorium at Panteion University in Athens hosted an event titled "We Walk to Gaza Armed with Solidarity", focused on the Greek participants to the international March to Gaza initiative. From 12 to 20 June, thousands of demonstrators from around the world will march towards the Gaza Strip, in a powerful act of protest against the ongoing genocide and blockade imposed on the Palestinian people by Israel’s apartheid regime.
In total, around 2,500 participants from 36 countries across five continents will come together in what has been described as a caravan of humanity and solidarity. Their goal is simple but profound: to stand against the atrocities unfolding in Gaza and to express meaningful support for the Palestinian people. Among them, 205 activists from Greece will take part – backed by many supporters – despite the fact that the Greek government maintains close strategic ties with Israel.
The event at Panteion University drew such a large crowd that the venue could not accommodate everyone who came to show their support. As noted in a statement by the Palestinian Community of Greece, people gathered not only to back the mission, but to show solidarity with Gaza and the Palestinian cause as a whole.
The evening’s programme included:
- A presentation of the planned route and objectives of the march
- Speeches by representatives of various organisations and grassroots activists
- A public call for support in any form possible for the mission ahead
The Palestinian Community of Greece, a key backer of the initiative, stated that it has stood by the activists from the outset and continues to support all efforts to break the blockade and amplify the voice of Palestinian resistance.
“This march to Gaza is not just a journey – it is a cry against injustice. It is about building bridges between people. It is a political act of defiance in the face of government silence,” the Community said in its concluding remarks.
Chants echoed through the hall:
“By air, sea and land, we come with Palestine, for freedom.”
As March to Gaza posted after the event:
“In two days, we set off. Let us all become a shield of protection for the mission. All eyes on March to Gaza and Palestine.”
