In the wake of the recent femicide outside the Athens police station at Agioi Anargyroi and subsequent public outcry, the Hellenic Police have ramped up efforts to combat domestic violence. The operational Offices for Combating Domestic Violence were particularly active, responding to numerous incidents, resulting in 379 arrests and the transportation of 23 victims in patrol cars for their safety.

Nationwide, police officers answered 1,025 calls through the Immediate Action call centre, and 81 female victims utilised the Panic Button application, a tool designed to offer immediate help. Of the 633 incidents managed, arrests were made in 379 cases, demonstrating a new approach by the police in addressing this critical issue.

Further supporting victims, the Hellenic Police have established specially designed “safe houses” in each Police Directorate region across the country. These facilities offer short-term safe accommodation for female victims of domestic violence and their family members, including minor children, who are in need of protection.
