Everyone innocent over Athens stock-market bubble after 13 years

With the acquittal of all of the accused, court investigations into the huge stock market scandal have ended after 13 years and 8 months. 42 people were found not guilty including traders, businessmen and investors who were involved in so called ‘bubble’ stocks and faced criminal charges. According to the three member criminal court of appeal, it was not proven that the sales of the controversial share packages affected their final prices on the Athens Stock Exchange during the time period in question.

12 month moratorium on foreclosed home auctions

– New draft law to be put before parliament within the week
– Protection criteria: up to €25,000 family income; up to €160,000 ‘objective value’ of primary residence; Deposit of minimum monthly payment

The troika made significant steps towards the Greek positions over the issue of lifting the ban on auctions of foreclosed homes in negotiations with the finance and development ministers, Giannis Stournaras and Kostas Chatzidakis. Confident that it will achieve a consensus with, or at least the tolerance of, the lenders, the government is moving to put draft legislation before parliament by Friday that will maintain the ban on home auctions for foreclosed homes at least for 2014. It will apply only to primary residences and under strict preconditions.

MP Financial Declarations: Rich leaders, poor country

Antonis Samaras and Evangelos Venizelos are the richest of the political leaders and privileged members of the largely financially protected group that are the 300 MPs – in spite of the exceptions that once again prove the rule. The taxation of MPs is also provocative – only 30% of their salaries is taxed with the rest being paid in full. Further questions are raised by the ‘pothen esxes’ [MPs financial declarations which require them to reveal their wealth and its sources] of Golden Dawn MPs some of whom declared zero income! Notable is the ‘white sheet’ of Syriza MP Tzeni Vamvaka who said, “I have no real estate, I have no money.”
