A 70-year-old builder, who had only recently retired, was still working in construction in the village of Panormos, Fokida, to make ends meet. Tragically, on the morning of Saturday, 15 March, he fell from scaffolding while on the job and lost his life.

The Fokida Labour Centre extended its condolences to the worker’s family and condemned the incident, highlighting that “today’s tragedy is a stark reminder of how often we rely on luck to get by.”

“Today, a tragic workplace accident occurred at a construction site in Panormos, resulting in the death of a local builder. The Fokida Labour Centre expresses its deepest condolences to the family of our colleague and pledges to support them in any way necessary.

It is crucial that the circumstances of this fatal incident are thoroughly investigated, and those responsible are held accountable.

This tragedy once again underscores the dangers faced by workers and the urgent need for continued efforts to protect both their lives and livelihoods.”
