When asked to comment on the subject, Bertaud said:”It is not accurate that Greece has been left alone to deal with the influx of refugees in its territory”…”Greece is not alone. We work together with the Greek authorities in order to increase the capacity for refugees to 50.000 people by the end of the year”. She went on to point that “a large part of this effort is supported by the U.N. High Commission for the Refugees via the funding for rents”.
She also mentioned that in order to achieve a better coordination between the Commission and the Greek authorities, the general director of the commission, who is also responsible for infrastructure funds, Martin Fervey, is in Greece.
Mrs Bertaud also explained that the commission has already given Greece a initial financial aid of 30mn Euros and is still looking for ways to facilitate further financial support.
