The fire broke out shortly after 1.30pm on Tuesday, with firefighters battling the flames under difficult conditions.

According to local outlet ekorinthos.gr, the explosion occurred in the factory’s vinegar production unit and was powerful enough to be felt in both Corinth and Loutraki. Reports indicate that the blast was caused by the explosion of a propane tank used by the company.

A total of 35 firefighters, supported by a specialist team from the 9th Forest Firefighting Unit (EMODE), volunteers and 11 fire engines, are operating at the scene, with additional assistance from local authority water tankers.

The Corinth Arson Investigation Unit has launched an investigation into the cause of the fire.
