Another fatal workplace accident in Rhodes

A young worker has lost his life while carrying out irrigation works in the Kalathos area of Rhodes.
According to Rodiaki news outlet, the man was under 30 and had been working on an irrigation project being carried out by a contractor on behalf of the regional authorities.
Panagiotis Englezos, President of the Rhodes Labour Centre, issued a statement on the tragic incident:
“Yet another fatal workplace accident in Rhodes – enough is enough. With deep anger and sadness, we say goodbye to another colleague who lost his life while on the job, in yet another tragic event that could have been prevented. The lack of a proper labour inspection service on the island is costing lives. A shortage of inspections, understaffed public bodies, and successive governments’ neglect of workers’ health and safety are turning workplaces into silent battlefields.”
